Description
The subject of this portrait is my youngest grandson. I was so captured by the intense, thoughtful expression on my grandson's face. I thought of the difficulties he has had to face in his young life and imagined him wondering what might lie ahead. This piece was my entry for the spring 2010 international juried show sponsored by the Society of Watercolor Artists of Fort Worth, Inc.

What an exceptional work, Mary! I can't believe it was the first you have done! True talent!
Mary Beglau Wykes replied:
not first ever portrait, Valerie - but first ever full sheet of watercolor paper, i.e. first large piece. It was, however, the 6th portrait, I believe.

This captures the essence and spirit of a young boy, the wistful look, the collar. This is so beautiful.
Mary Beglau Wykes replied:
In addition to his expression - I was definitely loving the effect of that collar . . . likr you, I felt it really fit with that little boy spirit
