One morning as I was drinking coffee I saw my youngest granddaughter standing in the most incredibly beautiful light, as the sun was rising. I determined to go take her photo as soon as I finished the coffee; but even a few minutes later, the light had changed. I had been so inspired by the beauty of the scene, that I determined to create something similar.

In 2008, Mary Begau Wykes made the decision to pursue her lifelong dream of being an artist. Though she had always had a yearning to paint, prior to that point she had not had the courage to pursue her dream. She had, however, always made a point of including creative pursuits in her life. Other creative activities have included singing, songwriting, playing piano and guitar, quilting, crochet, knitting, macrame and spinning her own yarn. Thinking that she had 'missed the boat' by not pursuing formal education in art, Mary held back on pursuing her dream of painting for many years.
